Mr. Simon W. Koenig

Simon W. “Si” (Kone) Koenig III, age 55, of McCandless Twp., a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend died peacefully Saturday, August 15, 2015 following a difficult and courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on May 21, 1960 in Pittsburgh, PA, he will be fondly remembered for his humility, tenacity, courage and uncomplicated passion for life and learning and reading, evident to everyone who met him. To know Simon was to know how deeply a man can love his faith, his wife, his children, family and friends. Simon’s wit and humor brought great joy to all, but it was his indestructible determination that made the biggest impact on all those whom he knew. He worked for 30 years at Ohio Valley General Hospital in the IT Department, where he demonstrated a willingness to assist anyone in need, regardless of role or title. The respect and admiration of those whose lives he touched in those 30 years was genuine and unmistakable. He is the cherished husband of 24 years of Dorothee (von Gebhardi) Koenig and loving father of Caroline Leigh Koenig and Lucas William Koenig, who bear the likeness of their father both physically and in spirit. Simon is predeceased by his beloved parents, Barbara Travers (Hearn) and Simon William Koenig Jr. He was the dear brother of Larry (Donna) Koenig, Mimi (Jim) Murray, Jeffrey (Gill) Koenig, Christopher (Janet) Koenig Sr., Anne (Mitzi) Koenig, and Matthew (Jessica)Koenig as well as brother-in-law of Petra (von Gebhardi) and Gary Watjen. Additionally, he will be mourned by his godchildren, many nieces and nephews and those who called Simon “friend”; all whom will miss his humility, sense of humor and endless curiosity. Friends are invited to Simons Funeral Home, Inc., 7720 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, for visitation on Tuesday August 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Paul J, Zywan Wednesday August 19. 10:00 AM, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 126 Fort Couch Road Pittsburgh, PA15241. Burial to follow in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road McMurray, PA 15317. A proud, loyal and dedicated Gamecock, especially Gamecock baseball, Simon graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1982, where he studied Journalism and was an editor for the campus newspaper.
