Mrs. Kelly Karavolos

Kelly Karavolos, 92, born June 4, 1925, in Pittsburgh to Greek immigrants, Panagioti and Thefani Frankos, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday evening, October 24, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Steve Karavolos, predeceased by brothers James and Alex Frankos, sister Angeliki Frankos, and foster brother Dino Fiffas. Kelly leaves behind devoted daughters Irene Karavolos (Charles Siebott) and Fanny Kostos. "Jadgy" will be greatly missed by her adoring grandchildren Kelly Karavolos Pefferman (Greg), George Kostos (Amy), and Stephanie Guimond (Guy), and her loving great grandchildren Demitria, Eric, and Steve Guimond, sisters Stella Athanasiou, Georgia Castellano (Sam), sister-in-law Tessie Frankos and Carol Fiffas, along with many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. During her lifetime Kelly packed parachutes for the war effort, worked in retail at Max Azens and Gimbels and ran a successful business, "The Greek Deli", along with her husband Steve. She was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church from its beginnings on Sandusky St. where she spearheaded efforts in fundraising and promoting the Greek Language Program to West No. Ave. where she supported her husband Steve who chaired the Food Festival three times in the late 70's, then to Providence Blvd. where she felt blessed to see the culmination of all that had come before and was humbled by the very small part she had played. Kelly was a perfectionist in everything she did, from baking to sewing to homemaking. These were the things she enjoyed. She traveled extensively over the years visiting many countries and locales, but the one trip, the one experience she enjoyed the most was being "baptized" in the Jordan along with her husband while visiting the Holy Land. Above all, Kelly's love, pride, and joy was her family. And she in turn will be forever missed and mourned by each and every one of them. Many, many thanks to Dr. Anthony Yates and Mindy (UPMC Downtown) for all the years you took care of our mother, to Joe DeSantis of Benedum Behavioral who navigated her care with kindness and compassion, and finally to her faithful and loving caretaker Chelsea. Viewing for Kelly will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 985 Providence Blvd., Pgh. PA 15237 with Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Funeral service on Friday at 11 a.m. preceded by visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Capital Campaign Fund.
